If you're coming to the site for the first time here's what you missed (otherwise scroll down for an update and a message from Alex herself):
Monday, March 29th, 2010 @ 5:30am
Alex was awoken by a Chicago Firefighter who helped her out of the third story apartment that she was living in, leaving all of her worldly possessions and 2 cats behind. For an hour she waited at the Starbucks on Belmont and Leavitt for the outcome as fire tore through the roof and her ceiling. A helpful firefighter braved the building and found the cats hiding under the couch and brought each one down. The fire raged on and when it was burnt out 2 hours later, the apartment building was deemed unsafe and scheduled for demolition.
Alex lost everything to the fire but her two cats and the pajamas she was wearing at the time. On Wednesday morning she was allowed into what remained of her old apartment and sifted out a few things but nothing of much value.
Here are some news stories about the fire:

This is when Alex's friends and family went into action. Starbucks has created a donation drop-off and Alex's family created this blog so people who wanted to help really could and do it in an immediate way.
Alex really appreciates all of the love and support from everyone. She is getting back on track and begins work again on Monday but she could still use some help if you'd like to offer. There is a donate button below if you'd like to contribute financially but that isn't the only way you can help.
Please give thanks for this day and everyone you have in your life!
If you have clothes that would fit Alex and would like to donate, leave a message here and someone will contact you.
Her sizes are:
Pants: 10L
Top: Large
Shoes: 11
